Welcome to Team Sun, Mesa!

I, myself, am new to Mesa this year, but I have definitely received a warm welcome from everyone in the building. I am coming from Phoenix, Arizona where I spent a year teaching Language Arts to 7th and 8th grade students. However, I originally grew up in Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University with an English degree. There, I gained teaching experience in grades ranging from 6th grade to 11th grade! I loved them all, but my heart lies with middle school.

I decided to take a job offer in Arizona to try something new and grow out of my comfort zone in the Midwest. I absolutely LOVED it there. Other than the wonderful students and colleagues I got to meet, the best parts of Arizona include the fact that there was NO snow throughout the entire winter, cute lizards everywhere, and there were always so many fun things to do because it was such a big city. At the end of the 19-20 school year, I moved to Lone Tree, Colorado where my significant other had gotten his full-time job offer. So, we spent our first summer in Colorado exploring incredibly beautiful places like Breckenridge, Evergreen, and Garden of the Gods. I haven't worked up to a fourteener yet, but it's on my bucket list!

This year is definitely going to be unique and full of new situations for us all, but I am SO looking forward to meeting all of my 8th grade students. In Language Arts, we are going to focus on narrative, informative, and argumentative reading and writing, and we will end the year with multimedia presentations. So, be prepared to challenge your speaking, writing, and reading skills! Let's have a great year, Mesa!
