MATHEMATICS

The MYP Mathematics Program is guided by the three MYP fundamental concepts:  holistic learning, intercultural awareness, and communication.  The mathematical concepts included in this program are: Number Sense; Pattern, Functions, and Algebraic Structures; Data, Statistics, and Probability; and Geometric Concepts.  The mathematics program is taught to support the IB Learner Profile, infusing the MYP fundamental concepts as students recognize and experience the important role that mathematics plays throughout the world. 


MYP MATHEMATICS 7

Course Description: MYP Mathematics Program is guided by the three MYP fundamental concepts development including holistic learning, intercultural awareness, and communication.  These concepts are taught in such a way to support the IB Learner Profile.  These students will develop a caring attitude towards others and their environment, open-minded perspective, and become principled and balanced in their actions and learning processes.

The students will master four critical areas: (1) proportional relationships; (2) operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations; (3) solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume; and (4) drawing inferences about populations based on samples.

MYP MATHEMATICS 7 (Accelerated)

Grade: 7th

Course Description: MYP Mathematics 7 Accelerated is guided by the three MYP fundamental concepts including holistic learning, intercultural awareness, and communication.

This course includes the critical areas contained in Mathematics Grade 7 course and contains content from 8th grade. This course demands a faster pace for instruction and learning.  The students will master these critical areas: (1) applying proportional relationships; (2) operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations; (3) solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two- and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume; and (4) drawing inferences about populations based on samples considering probability concepts;  (5) using linear equations and systems of linear equations to represent, analyze, and solve a variety of problems;  and (6) solving problems involving the area and circumference of a circle and surface area of three-dimensional objects and reasoning about relationships among two-dimensional figures using scale drawings and informal geometric constructions.  

These concepts are taught in such a way to support the IB Learner Profile.  These students will develop a caring attitude towards others and their environment, open-minded perspective, and become principled and balanced in their actions and learning processes.
