Garret West

Garret

Hey everyone – I’m Coach West, and I’m fired up to be teaching 7th & 8th-grade Wellness this year at Mesa Middle School! I came to Mesa back in August of 2019, and I’m proud to be part of a community that values growth, grit, and wellness both in and out of the classroom. I'm pleased to have introduced the Adaptive PE Program to Mesa and enjoy teaching that class.

Before joining the Mesa crew, I spent time teaching at Sage Canyon (2016-2018) and Rock Ridge Elementary (2018/19 School Year), building the foundation for what I bring to the classroom and the gym today.

I grew up right here in Castle Rock and graduated from Douglas County High School in 2011. I went on to earn my bachelor’s in Sports & Exercise Science from the University of Northern Colorado, where I also spent four seasons working with the UNC football program. That experience ignited a passion for coaching that’s only grown stronger over the years.

Currently, I serve as the Head JV Football Coach at Castle View High School, Head Coach for Mesa’s 7th Grade Boys Basketball team & Head Track Coach for Mesa Middle School. Sports and movement are a big part of who I am, but even bigger is helping students find what moves them.

Here is my coaching bio: DCHS Football 2016-2019, Chaparral Football 2020-2023, Castle View Football 2024-Present, DCHS Basketball 2016-2025, Mesa Basketball Head Coach 2019-Present, Mesa Assistant Track Coach 2023-2024, Head Track Coach 2025-Present.

This year, my mission is to help students explore the many ways to live a healthy, balanced lifestyle — physically, mentally, and socially. Wellness is more than exercise; it’s about choices, habits, and finding what works for you.

I can’t wait to get started. Let’s make it a great year!
