3D Printing

Ready to Print: Submit your file here

Not sure where to start:

STEP 1: DESIGN SOMETHING

How do I start? There are many different solid modeling CAD software programs that can produce printable 3D models. Some options are SolidWorks, Inventor, 3DS Max, Blender, Creo, AutoCAD, Rhino 3D, Sketchup and Tinkercad.

For beginners, try Tinkercad. It is web-based, optimized for 3D printing, and easy to get started with. There are tutorials that will take you through basic building processes.

Use the computers in the Library to access Tinkercad. Create your own account.

STEP 2: PREPARE YOUR FILE.

Check file size. Please make sure that your file can be printed in approximately 2 hours. For reference a product the size of a soda can would take approximately 5 hours to print.

Save your file as .stl. Most 3D modeling software will output this filetype. Please name your file in this format: lastname_firstinitial_modelname.stl

STEP 3: FILL OUT A REQUEST FORM.

Fill out the request form and submit your file.  Please only submit ONE request at a time.

Check your school email. Once your file has been received and checked to be sure that it complies with our guidelines you will receive a notification email that your file has been added to the queue.
