Maria Haas

Hello My Name Is...

Maria Haas

Hey Mesa Bears! I was born and raised in Centennial, CO. I graduated from the beautiful University of Colorado Colorado Springs in May 2019 with a degree in English and an emphasis in Secondary Education. During my time there, I played Division II basketball, volunteered as an English tutor for at-risk youth, and worked at the Writing Center on campus.

After graduating, I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in South Africa for eight months. I had the privilege of working alongside my colleagues to teach English to learners in grades 1-3 and coach athletic teams. I also joined a local dance group and would perform on weekends at weddings, engagement celebrations (called Lobola), and even a tombstone reveal ceremony-although I never actually saw the tombstone! I returned back to the United States in March 2020 due to COVID-19, but I was so blessed to get a job at Mesa to start in August 2020 as a 7th Grade English Teacher!

I love to play sports, hike fourteeners, read books, bake, and try not to kill my plants.

I am very passionate about helping my students utilize their skills to volunteer in their local, state, and global communities. My goal is for students to develop their growth mindset and increase their empathetic capacities to make a difference in our world.
