Language and Literature 8 (Strategies)

This is for students who are on an IEP with reading and writing goals taught by a Learning Specialist. Students will be working on implementing reading strategies in order to be able to comprehend and analyze a variety of fiction and nonfiction text.  In addition, students will work on writing a well organized and detailed paragraph while slowly transitioning to a multi-paragraph essay. Students will learn to to cite textual evidence. To be considered for this class, students would need teacher recommendation and have iReady scores several grades below grade-level, as well as an additional body of evidence that demonstrates need for differentiated curriculum. Students on IEPs with reading and writing goals who are working 1-3 years below grade level expectations will typically be in a general education Language and Literacy class with Learning Specialist support.
