Course Description

8th Grade ONLY:


The eighth grade MYP Language and Literature curriculum is literature based and enables students to continue to develop independent reading strategies. The course is designed and systematically sequenced so that students build the skills and master content in the areas of reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar. The students will extend their skills in critical thinking through interpretive writing and essay writing in response to literature. They will continue to expand their knowledge of the literary elements and literary terms.

Language Arts Strategies II

An 8th grade Self-contained Language & Literature student will be working on implementing reading strategies in order to be able to comprehend and analyze a variety of fiction and nonfiction text. Their MAP scores would range between 155 and 205 while reading below the sixth-grade level. Students will work on writing a well organized and detailed paragraph while slowly transitioning to writing a multi-paragraph essay that is coherently organized and detailed. Students will be working on modified 8th grade standards.
