Hello My Name Is...

Brenda Fletcher

Hello Mesa Families!  I have the privilege of teaching your children Math 8, Algebra, or Geometry this year on the Sun Bear Team.  This is my 17th year of teaching, which began at the high school level.  One year, my principal asked if I would teach a half-day at the middle school, and of course, I said yes (who would say no to the building principal?).  This was the best year of teaching for me because I encountered and engaged with the magnificent 8th graders in middle school.  The students were open-minded, risk-takers, and curious.  I have never looked back, and have been teaching 8th grade ever since!  Now, I find myself at an IB school that recognizes the importance of these traits in a learner, and I am very grateful to be here.

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Grove City College (in western Pennsylvania), and followed that with a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in math.  Additionally, I have earned my National Board Certification in Early Adolescence/Mathematics.  My teaching career has afforded me the opportunities to teach in a variety of settings such as a private all girls’ school, an online school, public schools, and I even home-schooled my children for several years.

My family, which consists of one husband, five children, and three dogs, lives in Elizabeth, CO.  We have been Colorado residents for the past 22 years, but still consider western Pennsylvania to be home (Go STEELERS!!).

I respect the role of the parents in the education of their children.  Please reach out to me with any concerns or questions thoughout the school year in order to make 8th grade a successful year of learning for your child.
