Co2 Cars

EVERY STUDENT GETS 1 BALSA WOOD CO2 CAR BLANK. I HAVE EXACTLY ENOUGH FOR 1 PER STUDENT. WATCH ALL VIDEOS, LISTEN TO WHAT IS SAID IN ALL INSTRUCTIONS.

Welcome to your Co2 Car Journey. For your journey, you will follow these stages:

  1. Gain basic knowledge about form, function, and society working as a system
  2. Watch aerodynamic videos to understand negative/positive lift, and drag (Videos)
  3. Learn how to do technical drawings, and demonstrate that you can make a technical drawing (Videos), Watch the first 3 videos and do what they ask/show.
    1. The FIRST video shows you how to set your board up. This is done by a dashing movie star who works a second job as a teacher at MMS.
    2. When done with the SECOND and THIRD video, show me YOUR completed drawing that was done in the video for a teacher check. MR. KASPER MUST INITIAL THIS TO MOVE ON.
  4. Research what kind of car you want to make, draw 3 rough prototypes. Once done with the prototypes, come see me for a template. To do a technical drawing of the car, YOU MUST WATCH VIDEO #3.
    1. On your technical drawing (done on a 8.5" x 14" sheet of paper), you must have:
      1. A complete technical drawing that meets the requirements on the template.
      2. On the back of your paper, your technical drawing must have notes on it where your car produces thrust, drag, negative or positive lift. Please watch the videos again, or talk to me if you need help with this. MR. KASPER MUST INITIAL THIS TO MOVE ON.
  5. Once you have completed this, you may start building your car. If you want to use the band saw, drill press, belt sander, and scroll saw, you must complete the power tool safety certification. See Mr. Kasper to start this. Your car will go much faster if you do this.

    2. Link to Google Survey Safety Test You MUST SCORE 100% ON THIS 37 QUESTION TEST.
  6. **********FINAL ASSEMBLY******* Build your car to your design specification. Video tutorials for Assembly
    1. For final assembly, you will need to watch the final assembly video linked above.
    2. Once done with that, follow these steps to get supplies:
      1. Go to the window of the danger box. Find a set of bag of supplies/tires you like, and pick that bag. There are 5 colors to choose from.
      2. Pull the Co2 Cartridge out of the colored tires bag and put it into the red & black purse sized bag on the same table.
      3. After you put the Co2 cartridge into the bag, find the other bag that is right next to it and looks just like it. Put your silver axles in this bag and get 2 dark grey axles. Put the silver axles into the bag- do not keep them.
      4. If you do not have access to the Danger Box, mark where you want axles drawn/drilled, and give your blank to Mr. Kasper. He will get your axles drilled for you.
      5. You can then finish the assembly.
      6. *****IF YOU BEND OR BREAK A WHEEL DURING ASSEMBLY, I HAVE A BLACK WHEEL REPLACEMENT, BUT NOT EXACT COLOR MATCHED WHEELS. PLEASE BE CAREFUL.
